- The three centersThe Enneagram's gut, heart, and head centers each circle a core emotion: anger, shame, or fear. Here's how each of the nine types relates to its own.
- WingsHow Enneagram wings work: why your type borrows from its neighbors, dominant vs. balanced wings, whether wings shift over life, and all 18 wings.

Questions
The Enneagram, briefly
Straight answers to what people ask first. For the long version, start with what the Enneagram is.
What is the Enneagram?
The Enneagram is a model of nine personality types, each organized around a core fear and a core desire. It describes why you do what you do—your motivation—rather than just how you behave, and it maps how each type changes under stress and in growth.
What are the nine Enneagram types?
Type 1 the Reformer, 2 the Helper, 3 the Achiever, 4 the Individualist, 5 the Investigator, 6 the Loyalist, 7 the Enthusiast, 8 the Challenger, and 9 the Peacemaker. They're grouped into three centers: gut (8, 9, 1), heart (2, 3, 4), and head (5, 6, 7).
How do I find my Enneagram type?
Take a test as a starting point, then read the descriptions of your top two or three types and notice which core fear fits. The enneagram.dev test is free, takes about eight minutes, and needs no email.
What is an Enneagram wing?
Your wing is one of the two types next to yours on the circle, which colors how your type shows up. A Type 4 can have a 3 wing (4w3) or a 5 wing (4w5). There are 18 wings in all.
Is the Enneagram scientifically valid?
Partly. Research is limited and mixed: a 2021 systematic review found some support, especially links to Big Five traits, and little research on ideas like wings and arrows. It's best used as a reflective tool, not a diagnosis.
